John “Brad” Shepherd, DMD
Dr. John Shepherd’s professional life started in construction as a carpenter building custom homes in Southern California. While he loved being a carpenter, he felt that he could use his talents in a new way that could serve the community and allow him more time to spend with his family. That is when he decided to return to school and pursue a career in dentistry. Dr. Shepherd knew that dentistry would be a natural fit for him because dentistry is construction; just on a smaller scale.
After receiving his dental degree at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Shepherd worked as an associate dentist in Las Vegas and Hawaii. During the years as an associate, he was able to gain experience in many avenues of dentistry, ranging from dental implants to Invisalign.
After he developed his knowledge, he invested in his vision as a provider and opened his first practice which was located in Southern California, where he was raised.
Dr. Shepherd and his wife were inspired to move to North Carolina after visiting friends who lived here and seeing how amazing it would be to raise their son and continue his career in dentistry.
Dr. Shepherd works with quality in mind, and his integrity as a provider and team leader is unparalleled!
Amy is a wife and mother of four amazing kids! She graduated from the UNC, School of Dentistry, in 2008, and finds great delight in educating her patients about oral health and motivating them to care for their smiles.
Amy’s father was a dentist, and growing up in his practice helped her develop her passion for dentistry.
In her free time, Amy enjoys photography, fishing, Panthers football, quilting, and genealogy.
Nicole is from upstate New York, and moved to North Carolina in 2006 for a change of career, scenery, and weather! Before starting her dental career she worked as the chief videographer and editor at a news station. Her passion for dentistry began when she had a summer job as a dental assistant and decided to pursue a career in dentistry, graduating from UNC!
In her spare time, Nicole loves hanging out with friends and family, watching all sports, walking, and cooking.
Meet Brenda, the Newest Team Member of Modern Dental of Durham!
She relocated to Durham in 2024 with her fiancé and dog Winston from southern California. Her career as a dental assistant began in 2013 and she has been finding joy in providing her patients with high-quality care with a smile ever since!
In her free time, she enjoys video gaming, snowboarding, and traveling.
Yaz graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business administration. Before joining the practice, she worked as a patient care, insurance, and treatment coordinator. Yaz is passionate about maximizing insurance benefits for our patients and is committed to providing excellent care for all patients.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Yaz now resides in North Carolina with her husband and daughter. She enjoys baking, reading, hiking, and working out in her spare time.
